A forest fire was declared in Mijas on Thursday after local residents reported columns of smoke billowing into the sky.
Images shared by emergency services showed the inferno taking hold in the Valtocado area, behind the popular Venta Los Condes restaurant.
At least one helicopter was roped into the operation to assist firefighters on the ground.
At shortly after 9pm, Andalucia’s firefighting service INFOCA declare the fire ‘under control’.
The inferno began at around 3.45pm, when a vehicle caught on fire and caused flames to spread to the forest.
The 112 emergency hotline received dozens of calls reporting a column of smoke above the Mijas area.
Pictures shared on X showed the fire came close to a series of homes in the hills of Mijas.
