One firefighter, aged 26, dislocated his shoulder while extinguishing the blaze, while a resident, 56, suffered serious smoke inhalation.
The Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium (CPB) said the fire was sparked by the battery of an electric scooter that was charging inside a home on one of the lower floors.
The fire ‘totally destroyed’ the flat before spreading into homes on the upper floors.
Residents were evacuated from all five floors and it took more than two hours to put out the flames.
A sergeant, two corporals, and eight firefighters from the Elche and Crevillente fire stations were dispatched to the scene.
The inferno was considered extinguished at 4.12am. Four residents required medical attention for smoke intoxication.
Three people were taken to Elche General Hospital for treatment, while another was taken to Vinalapo Hospital.
It comes after an electric car sparked a deadly fire in a Madrid car park earlier this month.
Firefighters Sergio Benavente Molero and Jesus Aguilar Rodriguez lost their lives while trying to put out the inferno, which caused a series of explosions after spreading to seven other cars filled with petrol.
