POLICE are investigating whether a couple who plunged from the eighth floor of a Malaga tower block on Tuesday morning were part of a suicide pact.
The Ukrainian couple plunged to their deaths from an apartment complex situated in the Cruz del Humilladero district.
The incident occurred at around 7.49am on Calle Madre Terese de Calcuta, on the corner of Calle Encio (pictured above).
Police sources quoted by Malaga Hoy said locals first called the 112 emergency hotline to report a loud bang, with some describing the sound as an ‘explosion’.
However, it later turned out that they had merely heard the bodies hitting the concrete pavement.
According to witnesses, a second ‘bang’ was heard shortly after the first, suggesting they did not fall at the same time.
The Policia Nacional force has taken over the investigation, with sources telling Malaga Hoy that a suicide pact is one line of enquiry.
The man who died was 64 years old, while the woman was aged 60.
There were no previous reports of domestic abuse and the couple were not on the Viogen domestic violence monitoring system.
