A prolific burglar who spent five months terrorising a Costa del Sol community has finally been arrested, police announced today.
Dubbed ‘The Eskimo’, the thief’s modus operandi saw him break into homes or businesses donning a zipped up parka jacket, complete with a fur hood and face covering.
The 46-year-old is alleged to be behind at least 15 robberies in Velez-Malaga, during a spree which began in December 2024.
The uptick in burglaries caused widespread alarm in the city, which is popular among British expats.
His alleged targets have included a bakery, a chicken rotisserie shop, beach bar, seafood restaurant, several bars, a gym and two homes.

The suspect was caught raiding the establishments on CCTV while donning his signature eskimo-style jacket and always hitting early in the morning.
He tended to use his own tools to break into the properties’ entrances, before heading straight to the cash register or slot machine.
He was rumbled this week while trying to rob a bar on Calle Huerto Vicario after breaking one of its windows.
The Eskimo was chased by a Policia Local who called for back up. One officer was injured after the suspect resisted arrest with force.
Officers seized his robbery kit, consisting of several tools, a flashlight and gloves, among other items.
