A British expat has died after falling off his e-scooter while returning home from work on the Costa Blanca.

The 59-year-old was travelling on Calle Baikal, Oriheula, at around 8pm on Wednesday when the tragedy occurred.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash but a report by local expat paper The Leader claims the Brit, named only as Adrian, hit a pothole. This has not been confirmed by authorities.

Streets and roads across Spain’s Mediterranean coast have become plagued with potholes following weeks of severe rain storms.

The crash on Wednesday caused Arian to fly over the handlebars and hit his head on the ground.

A medical team from the Emergency Medical Service (SAMU) was dispatched to the scene.

Paramedics immediately began CPR and attempted to stabilise him.

Despite their best efforts he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation continues.
