A SERIES of weather warnings have been issued in Spain ahead of hurricane force winds of up to 120km/hr.
According to state weather agency Aemet, the affected areas are the north-eastern tip of the mainland, the coast of Tarragona and the Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca.
The northeasternmost coast of Ampurdan is under an orange alert on Sunday from 10am until 6pm, with winds of 85km/hr and gusts of up to 120km/hr. Waves could reach as high as 10 metres.
From 11am, the whole Menorca coast is also under an orange alert, with 75km/hr winds expected to bring swells of up to seven metres and monster waves of up to 13 metres.
On Mallorca, the north and northeast side of the island is on a yellow warning for winds of up to 80km/hr until 8am.
However its coastline is on a combination of yellow and orange alerts until 3pm, with waves of up to six metres predicted.
Meanwhile, the whole of Ibiza’s coastline is on a yellow advisory until 10am, warning of 60km/hr winds and three-metre waves.
The north and the Balearics are not the only parts of the country on alert, with the Cadiz coastline also taking a battering on Sunday.
The province’s Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts are on a yellow warning until midnight tonight, with 61km/hr winds forecast.
