A map showing the average salary across the EU has laid bare the distance between Spain and other leading economies.
The map was created by Visual Capitalist, a publisher founded by economists and developers that analyses economies and emerging technologies around the world.
But instead of taking purely the average salary of each country, the website’s map breaks it down into specific sectors and professions.
As a whole, Spain has the 15th lowest average salary out of the 27 other EU countries, sitting at €18.2 per hour.
It is even lower than Italy which sits at €21.5 per hour. Bulgaria had the lowest salary on just €8 per hour.
The average salary across the whole EU is €24 per hour, although there are clear differences between the south and the north, with the latter having much higher averages.
Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark, for example, have average hourly salaries of €31.6, €36.3, €33 and €42 respectively.
The map did not include Russia, the UK, Switzerland, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Liechtenstein, Andorra, San Marino, Monaco, or Vatican City.
